La Crosse Rotary Lights: A Holiday Tradition that Shines Bright. Each year as the holiday season unfolds, Riverside Park in La Crosse, Wisconsin transforms into one of the most magical winter wonderlands in the Midwest — the Rotary Lights display. Now celebrating its 31st year in 2025, this cherished community tradition draws tens of thousands of visitors from across the region to experience the sparkle and joy of the season.
The heart of the event is the breathtaking display of over three million lights that illuminate the park nightly from late November through December 31st. Beginning the Friday after Thanksgiving, the display opens at 5:00 p.m. daily, with gates closing after the last car in line around 10:00 p.m. (with special extended hours on New Year’s Eve and exceptions on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).
What makes Rotary Lights truly special is that it’s free to attend — though visitors are encouraged to bring voluntary food or cash donations to support local food pantries and help those in need during the holidays.
Beyond the dazzling lights, there is something for everyone: take a leisurely drive or stroll through the illuminated park, enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, visit Santa and his reindeer, glide across the ice skating rink, or cozy up by a fire with free s’mores. Special nights include a Live Nativity, carriage rides, and All Abilities Night, designed with reduced sensory stimulation so everyone can enjoy the experience.
For families and visitors alike, Rotary Lights is more than a light show — it’s a vibrant celebration of community spirit, generosity, and holiday magic that makes La Crosse sparkle each winter.
Winter is a special time in the La Crosse area, and at Johnson Ops Tree Care, we’re proud to be part of a community that comes together to celebrate the season. From our family to yours, we wish you happy holidays filled with warmth and joy.
